Obituary

Aubrey Wayne Blalock, 87, of Liberty, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, Sunday, August 11, 2024, with his family at his side.

Aubrey was born May 24, 1937, in Liberty, Mississippi, to the late Willie Cleveland Blalock and the late Nora Lee Plemmons Blalock. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Blalock Hadley and three brothers: Melvin Blalock, Carl Blalock and Lee Blalock.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Genevieve Coleman Blalock, of Liberty, Mississippi; two children: Wayne (Patricia) Blalock, and Tabatha (David) Tolbert; two brothers: Merrill Blalock and Bert Blalock; two sisters: Wilma (Ted) Aucoin and Debra (Ken) Moritz; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great grandchild coming soon; sister in law Blondell Blalock; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Aubrey served in the United States Navy and loved to reminisce about his days aboard the USS Saratoga. He retired as co-owner of Blalock's Food Center in May of 2022. He served the town of Liberty and surrounding community for more than 70 years at the grocery store. He met many there with a kind smile and was dedicated to this business. He helped many with his love of buying and selling things. Some might say he was a one man pawn shop and could occasionally be found at garage sales held next door to the grocery store because he couldn't resist finding a treasure there. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many different positions and callings there. He also served in the Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple with his faithful companion, Genevieve, for many years.

Aubrey was humble, generous, and kind. He was an example of integrity and charity and served others quietly and without the expectation of receiving. When he saw a need, he was never hesitant to help fill that need. He was truly an example of the prophet Mormon's description of charity found in Moroni 7:45 "And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Visitation is Wednesday, August 14, 2024 from 9-11 am, followed by the funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Liberty. Interment will follow in Blalock Cemetery in Liberty.
