Avis Lucille McDowell, 87, departed this life peacefully Friday, February 3, 2023, at Camellia Estates in McComb, Mississippi.

She was born December 9, 1935 in Amite County, MS. to Marcus Herman and Tennie Bates Etheridge. She was a homemaker and a member of Praise Cathedral Church of God in Bude, MS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 64 years J.H. McDowell; Infant brother Emmit Dalton Etheridge; sisters Mary Ann Tarver, Geneva Bateman, Maxine Smith, and Florine Travis.

She is survived by her sons Jessie H. (Peggy) McDowell Jr., R. Bruce McDowell, and Gregory M. (Yvette) McDowell; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Ryan) Davis, Benjamin (Candace) McDowell, Kayla McDowell, John Marcus (Anna) McDowell, Kymberli McDowell, Katie Lyn McDowell, and Karli McDowell; five great grandchildren, Tripp McDowell, Brooks Davis, Linley Davis, Adaline McDowell, Maren Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Monday, February 6, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster, MS., from 9:00 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Carl Mason.  Interment will follow in McDowell Cemetery on Highway 33 west of Coles, MS.
