Lester Bramlette "Brent" Caston
Lester Bramlette "Brent" Caston, native of Liberty, Mississippi, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024. He was 80 years old, born December 31, 1943 to Leon Jack Caston and Eula Bell Smith Caston.
Brent grew up in Liberty, Ms. He was an avid sportsman and athlete. He was an outstanding quarterback at Liberty High School, where he was a four-year letterman. During his junior and senior seasons ('60 and '61), he led the Liberty Rebels to the Tangipahoa Conference championship, and was named Most Valuable Player in the conference both those years. He played in the 1962 Mississippi High School All-Star game. He was selected Most Handsome during his junior year and Mr. Liberty School during his senior year. He graduated from Liberty in 1962, and signed a football scholarship with Ole Miss, where he became an outstanding defensive player for Coach Johnny Vaught, and was known as the Monster. He was signed by the Dallas Cowboys after his senior season at Ole Miss (1966). He graduated from Ole Miss in 1967, and began his coaching career at South Pike that fall. In the spring of 1968, he was named Head Coach at Liberty High School. In his second season as head coach at Liberty (1969), he led the Liberty Rebels to the last Confederate Conference Championship. In 1970, he became Head Coach at Amite School Center. He was an outdoorsman, turkey, deer, and quail hunting, and was an avid golfer.
Brent is survived by his wife Peggy Nunnery Caston; daughter Jennifer Knight and husband Jason; son Michael Nunnery, McKay Caston and wife Kristy; daughter Keeton Disser and Nate; grandchildren Braden and Gabby Knight, Madeline and Caroline Nunnery, Caitlyn and Klay Seago, Justin Pratt, Ann Ferris Caston, Schaeffer Caston, Sarah Wynn Caston, and Mason and Addison Disser; two great grandchildren Avery and Evan Seago; and one brother James Kenneth Caston.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Bram Caston, daughter Tracy Boyd; brothers Wesley Caston and Billy Jack Caston; three sisters Virginia "Dinah" Kirkland and Judy Caston Seale, and an infant sister Elna Rae Caston.
Visitation is Monday, November 4, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster, MS. from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Funeral services are Tuesday, November 5, at 11:00 A.M. at Adams United Methodist Church in the Auburn Community, officiated by Rev. Shan Van Norman. Graveside services will follow in Adams Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Braden Knight, Justin Pratt, Greg Walsh, Lee Wilson, Glenn Moore, Adam Sterling, Gerald Etheridge, and Greyson Campbell.
