Carolyn completed degrees from Pearl River Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a school teacher by profession and taught for nearly forty years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities. Beginning at the early age of 9, she served as the church pianist and continued to serve in countless capacities, including seminary teacher for fourteen years, and a Sunday school and Primary teacher. She also served in the church's Young Women's Organization and Relief Society. Merrill and Carolyn and their children moved to Osaka, Japan, for three years in missionary service. She served in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as a temple worker. She served as the church's music chairman and organist until her passing. Service was a hallmark of Carolyn's life. Her devotion to God, family, and others is her legacy. Lovingly known to her family as "Mamoo," she was often found studying the gospel of Jesus Christ. She exemplified the scripture in Matthew 6:33, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God."
