Obituary

Charles L. Hayman Jr., 88, of the Homochitto Community near Gloster, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 23, 2026, at Camellia Estates in McComb, MS.

Charles was born June 19, 1938, at McComb Hospital to Charles L. Hayman and Hazey Causey Hayman. He graduated from Crosby High School in 1956 and moved to Baton Rouge, LA.  that same year to begin his working career. In 1971, he returned to the Homochitto community, where he made his home for the remainder of his life.

Charles served in the United States Army and was a longtime member of Mt. Vernon Methodist Church.

In August 1957, Charles married the love of his life, Ruby Longmire Hayman. They shared 62 years of marriage before her passing. Charles will be remembered for his quiet, unhurried way of speaking and, most of all, for being a wonderful storyteller. He had a way of making people listen and enjoy the stories he had to tell, leaving behind many cherished memories for his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Ruby Longmire Hayman; his sister Mary Lois Lanier; and his nephew Mark Lanier.

Charles is survived by his nephews, Luke Longmire and his wife Jamie, and their son; Chuck Lanier and his wife Sandy and their four children; nieces Sydney Weber and her husband Jerry, and their two daughters; and Laney Lanier, her fiancé Chris, and her daughter; and by Mark Lanier's wife Melinda Lanier and their two children.

Charles will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. His stories, his gentle nature, and the memories he created throughout his life will remain with those who were fortunate enough to know him.
