David Edward
Jackson
Nov 3, 1926 — Apr 6, 2025
Gloster
David Edward Jackson, 98, peacefully went on to Glory on Sunday, April 6, 2025, with his family by his side. He was a lifelong resident of Busy Corner, Mississippi. Born on November 3, 1926, to Edwin "Bud" Jackson and Rochie Crum Jackson, David spent his time as a boy working on the farm tending to animals and picking cotton. He attended Oxford School and in his spare time he loved to bird and rabbit hunt the creek bottoms.
In 1944, after graduating high school, David was drafted into the Army at the age of 17. He trained stateside for a beach landing in the Philippines, however as fate would have it, as his company neared the shores, the war came to an unexpected and welcome end. For the remainder of his service, he was stationed on the northern island of Hokkaido, Japan, where he drove high-ranking officers wherever they wanted to go, including the golf course, where he played his one and only round of golf.
On September 11, 1954, he married his sweetheart Clemmie Whittington, and together they had 3 girls, Sheila, and twins, Carla and Paula. He worked at Johns- Manville in Natchez for 25 years as a lab tech until his retirement at age 57. All while working he raised cattle, hogs, chickens and always had something growing in the garden. He loved raising a garden to help feed his family and give all he could to his neighbors. Retirement didn't slow David down; he stayed busy helping his wife babysit neighborhood kids, driving people to doctor's appointments, and pulling a few neighbors out of the ditch.
He loved his grandkids and was so proud of each one of them. He was always happy to play chauffeur for them to and from school, doctor's appointments and sporting events. He loved watching them play ball and telling them "If you can't do any better than that, I'd just quit." That was his way of telling you to do better next time.
He was a true definition of a Godly man and led by example, one that we should all strive to follow. He loved his neighbor and would go out of his way to help anyway he could, always placing everyone's needs before his own.
He is survived by his three girls; Sheila Kelton (Tim), Carla Brown (John) and Paula Gilliland (Johnny); six grandchildren; David Brown (Kasie Beth), Amber King (Tyler), Jared Gilliland (Laiken), Jessica Gilliland (Jarrod), Casey Kelton and Corey Kelton (Brooke); twelve great grandchildren with one more on the way; one brother, Phillip Jackson (Faye).
He is preceded by his wife Clemmie, his parents Bud and Rochie, one brother, Charles Jewell Jackson, two sisters Lyndell Caston and Edith Marge Jackson.
David Jackson's visitation will be Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 5:oo pm until 8:00 pm at Mary Springs Church of God of Prophecy.
