Obituary

Garland Stewart Tynes, 67, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, family member and friend passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2021 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from complications following an automobile accident in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

He was born on September 23, 1954, in Centerville, Mississippi, to Marcel and Elouise Tynes. Garland graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1973 and attended Arkansas State University on a golf scholarship.

Upon returning to Pine Bluff, he married the love of his life, Kathy Carey, and began working at the Pine Bluff Country Club as Golf Course Superintendent, a position he held for 45 years until his retirement in 2019.

Garland was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting and fishing and a love for golf. He was a happy, fun-loving guy who lived life to the fullest. He never met a stranger and will always be remembered for helping people, no matter the task. His kindness will never be forgotten, and he will be missed every day by all who knew him. Garland was a member of New Life Church and had a true love for God, his family, and friends. As a family member said, "A very bright light has gone out in our family."

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elouise Tynes; and a brother, Charles Tynes.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Carey Tynes; two daughters, Rachel (Michael) Jett of Heber Springs and Rebecca (Zach) East of Benton; his father, Marcel of Gloster, Mississippi; a brother, Dickie Tynes of Fayetteville; a sister, Stephanie (Grreg) Votsmier of Hernando, Mississippi; three grandchildren, the joys of his life – Sloan Kathryn Jett, Tynes Dylan East, and Madison Elizabeth East; and a number of aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
