George Ferguson, 81, of Purvis, Mississippi, passed away Friday, May 1, 2026 at his home.

Mr. Ferguson was a native of Gloster, MS. He had moved to Purvis, MS. many years ago. He was a charter member of Canaan Baptist Church in Purvis. He worked as a truck driver for Texas Eastern Transmission for several years before his retirement. He later worked for Lamar County operating heavy equipment and also drove a dump truck for Burge Grading Corporation. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication throughout his career. He was also an avid golfer and loved fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W.M. and Letha Ferguson; two brothers, Virgil Ferguson and Willard Ferguson; and two wives, Jeanette Sterling Ferguson and Gloria Walley Ferguson.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Morris Ferguson; his sister, Martha Lucille Beard (Ralph); one sister-in-law, Patricia Hinton Ferguson; five nephews, Steve Ferguson, Hal Ferguson, Dwayne Ferguson, Wallace Ferguson, and David Ferguson; one niece, Roxanne Ferguson; one step-son, Tony Morris (Kim); one step-grandson, Charles Morris; and one step-great grandson, Jayce Morris.

There will be a funeral service at Canann Baptist Church at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday May 5, 2026.

There will also be a service held on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster, MS.  A gathering will begin at 2:00 P.M. with services to follow at 2:30 P.M.at the funeral home or at Roseland Cemetery, depending on weather, followed by interment at Roseland Cemetery in Gloster.

Pallbearers are Glenn Stevens, Mitch Campbell, Jimmy Simpson, Hal Ferguson, Steve Ferguson, and Bobby Payne.
