James Earl Coleman, 90, native of Liberty, Mississippi and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, La., passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at his oldest daughter's residence.
He was born June 5, 1932 in Liberty, MS. the son of William Jefferson "W.J. and Nellie Carroll Coleman.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and a Retired Baton Rouge Fire Department Captain. He also built many houses and other buildings as a carpenter.
All who knew him talks about his big "Infectious" smile and his sense of humor with his many old sayings.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Joyce Marlene Coleman; son Steven Randall Coleman; and brother T.J. "Jack" Bates.
James is survived by two daughters, Roxanne Cotten and her husband Daniel, and Ronette Coleman, both of Baton Rouge, La.; two brothers, Charles Coleman and wife Karen, and Donald Coleman and wife Louise; one sister Margie Coleman Bond; numerous nieces and nephews; and close "family" friends, Woody and Julie Rimes and family.
Special thanks to his two special caregivers, Kuronda and Rudy; also to Cardinal Hospice Staff and especially Kevin, Penny, Lorraine, Cathy, and Jimmy.
In lieu of flowers, and our parents love for children, and for children to learn of God's amazing love, donations can be made to: "Zoar Baptist Church Children's Building Fund, 11848 Hooper Road, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70818."
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Clay Hill Cemetery on Clay Hill Rd. in Amite County, MS.
