Jerry Dale Whittington, 71, died March 22, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.

Jerry was born July 7, 1951 in McComb, MS. to James "Jimmy" and Lucille Whittington. Jerry loved fishing, socializing with family and friends, and spending time with his grandkids. He was known for his kind and generous nature.

In 1969 Jerry graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, MS. After high school Jerry joined the U.S. Army and was an Air Traffic Controller during the Vietnam War era. He served overseas in Korea. Jerry was honorably discharged from the Army in 1976, then later joined the National Guard where he served for several years.

Jerry was a mechanic and carpenter.  His hobbies included building bird houses.

He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Smithdale, MS.

Jerry is survived by the love of his life Tammy Smith; son Kirk and Cassandra Whittington of Smithdale, MS.; daughter Jerri and Shawn Burris of Smithdale, MS.; son Billy and Theresa Whittington of LaFollette, TN.; daughter Cessna Whittington of Clear Water, FL.; grandkids Summer Whittington, Natalie Whittington, Melanie Whittington, Cody Burris, Savannah Carter, Brittany Dela Cruz, Timothy McGuire, Caroline Lawrence, Tanner Whittington, Sawyer Whittington, and Seth Massey; six great grandkids; two brothers Jack Whittington and Charles Whittington; and one sister Jimmie Lou Spencer.

He was preceded in death by parents James "Jimmy" Whittington and Lucille Whittington.

Visitation is Friday, March 24, 2023, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Smithdale, MS. from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., and Saturday from 12:00 P.M. until time of funeral services at 1:00 P.M. at the church.  Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Richie Fulgham, Justin Etheridge, John Massey, Jeremy Caraway, Mark Mott, and Coon Leahey.
