d. Jun 21, 2025
Liberty
Jo Ann Whittington Fleming, 78, of Liberty, MS went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 20, 2025 at home with her children by her side.
She was born on September 14, 1946 to O.C. & Helen Reeves Whittington of Liberty.
Jo Ann married James Fleming in 1976. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where she was involved in many aspects while raising their 5 children in church.
Her number one task was to take the best care of her husband and children. Jo Ann worked in various offices and positions throughout her life including a power plant, Liberty Insurance Agency, US Metal Works and also as a secretary for several different attorneys through the years. After her children were raised, she completed the Southwest Mississippi Community College Cosmetology Program in 2001. She enjoyed this new profession and worked in a salon and nursing home styling hair for several years.
Her hobbies included collecting glassware and other vintage finds. She always loved gardening, flowers and canning but most importantly cooking to feed her large family. She had a "green thumb" and loved to share and talk about plants with others.
Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 48 years, James Fleming.
Those left to cherish her memory are her 5 children and their spouses: David & Tracy Oglesby, Jeanne O. & Tim Wroten, Jane O. & Hugh Laird, Joel & Katie Fleming, and Jonathan & Angel Fleming.
