John Jay Runnels, born November 13, 1964 in New Orleans LA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and lifelong friends, at home in his beloved cabin in the woods on August 18, 2024.

An LSU graduate in the field of QBA, he ran his own successful software development company. John loved cooking, hunting, his dogs, following LSU football and baseball, and was an avid woodworker and carpenter who was immensely proud of his renovations to the family home. Above all, John was proud of his beautiful and talented children, whom he considered his greatest achievement in life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Runnels and Mary Gail Runnels (née Zansler), and his father-in-law, David Marshall.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Kristie (née Marshall), his children, Ian Runnels (Isela) and Haley Runnels, his brother James Runnels Jr. (Kelly B), his mother-in-law Virginia Marshall, his sister-in-law Amy Zganjar (Chris) and their children Mia and Owen, and countless friends and relatives.

A private remembrance was held. In memory of John Jay Runnels, the family expresses gratitude for donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, or the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.
