Obituary

Julia Elaine "Toby" Haygood Stevens, 92, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Field Memorial Community Hospital.  She was born December 15, 1926 to Marvin W. and Nettie "Mamie" Sanders Haygood in Liberty, MS where she resided her entire life.


She was a homemaker and was known for her wonderful cooking skills. She was a lifelong active member of Bethel Baptist Church, Liberty, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John C. Stevens, Sr., sisters, Doris "Tiny" Daniel and Martha Perkins and one nephew Kregg Haygood.


She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie Stevens and wife Brenda of Zachary, LA. And Johnny Stevens and wife Ann of Liberty, MS; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte Thornton and husband Bert of Liberty, MS; six grandchildren, Jeff Thornton and Eric Thornton of Liberty, MS, Chad Stevens, wife Darri of Centreville, MS,  Chanda Bryan, husband Jeremy of Vidalia, LA, Amanda Brabham, husband Brad of Hattiesburg, MS, and Kathy Hendrick, husband Neal of Baton Rouge, LA; fourteen great-grandchildren, Dent and Ridge Thornton, Chandler, Hunter, Alexandra and Gabriella Hendrick, Charli and Olivia Stevens, Dylan Carter, Emma Bryan, Allison and Giles McDaniel, Bryce and Annsley Brabham: three brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Betty Haygood, Sammy and Corene Haygood and Billy and Billie Gail Haygood all of Liberty, MS and numerous nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 2 until 5pm at Brown Funeral Home, Liberty, MS.  Visitation will resume Monday, January 21, 2019 at 9am until services at 11am at Bethel Baptist Church, Liberty, MS.  Burial services will follow in Bethel Baptist Church cemetery, Rev. James Sadler officiating.


Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jeff and Eric Thornton, Chad Stevens, Brad Brabham, Jeremy Bryan and Neal Hendrick. The family would like to express their deepest thanks to the staffs of Wilkinson Senior Care Center and Field Health Systems.


In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2153 Bethel Rd., Liberty, MS 39645.
