Obituary

Karan Fern Terrell, age 70, died March 2, 2022, at her home in Liberty, MS from extended palliative care for a massive stroke.  Surrounded by loving and supportive family and caretakers, she lived out her last days at home.

Born April 6, 1951, in Waco, Texas, Karan was raised and lived most of her life on Lazy Creek Lane in Liberty, MS as the first of four daughters born to Wallace and Otheal Payne Terrell.

A graduate of Southwest Mississippi Community College and Mississippi University for Women, Karan touched the lives of over a thousand children during her 43+ year career as an elementary teacher in Amite and Perry counties in Mississippi.  She was an invaluable source of family support for her parents and sisters. She also was a major influence in the lives of her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, who all affectionately referred to her as "Aunt K".

As a Christian and active member of Liberty Baptist Church, Karan served as church clerk for several years.  She was an avid reader and sports fan.  Karan spent many a day critiquing, debating and ultimately enjoying the play of various sports contests with her father.  Acting as a caretaker for her parents, Karan was instrumental in saving the life of her father when his home burned in 2016.

The family is grateful for the many visits and expressions of love and concern from neighbors and friends during her last few months of life.  A special thank you to Little Bits caregivers Jo Martin and Brenda Cook and to St. Luke's Hospice.

Karan was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Darcy McCoy.  She is survived by her sisters: Patsy Boler and husband, Lane; Susan McGehee and husband, Bernell; Sally McCoy Bowlin and husband, Rick. She is also survived by 5 nieces: Page McGehee Goff, Nancy Boler Keeton, April McCoy Malone, Mandy McGehee Scarpulla, Ashley McCoy Casey; 2 nephews: Patrick Boler and Terrell Boler; and by 12 great nieces and nephews.
