Kenneth Taylor Petty, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024 in Lafayette, Louisiana after a brief illness.
Kenneth was born on April 21, 1937 in Tarver, Georgia to Zeke and Rocky Petty. In 1965, Kenneth moved to Crosby, Mississippi while working for the St. Regis Paper Company. He went on to work for Southern Lumber Company where he eventually retired. He was an active leader in the community serving as Mayor of Crosby for many years. He was a devoted member and Deacon of Crosby Baptist Church. He was a man of strong faith and was quick to share his love and passion for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Kenneth was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed by many.
Survivors include his beloved wife of sixty-six years, Shelby Jean Parr Petty, his son Richard "Smokey" Petty (Christine); his daughter, Pam Petty Burrow and a sister Linda Rawls (Jimmy). Ten grandchildren: Desha, Steven (Cristen), Samantha, Nikki, Chelsey (Jordy), Lindsey (Jeffrey) Jenna, Taylor (Erica), Trey and Lauren. Twelve great grandchildren: Austin, Courtney, Andrea, Hadley, Elliette, Ridley, Max, Brent, Maverick, Kalen, Tony and Katea, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Zeke and Rocky Petty, his son, Steven Deron Petty; son-in-law Dwight H. Burrow, Jr.; his brothers Mickey Petty, Felton Petty, and his sister, Mavis Trowell.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster, Mississippi, from 1:00 P.M. until time of funeral services at 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Brother Bart Houston will officiate the services. Interment will be held in Roseland Cemetery in Gloster, Mississippi.
Upholding the honor of pallbearers will be Kevin Longmire, Randy Foreman, Steven Petty, Michael Petty, Steve Hayes, and Ray Rutland.
Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Longmire and Buddy Barbo.
A reception for family and friends will be after the services at Crosby Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crosby Baptist Church, 115 Church Street, Crosby, Mississippi 39633-3582.
