Obituary

Lena Sue Burt, a native of McComb, MS and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge as well as an adopted resident of French Settlement in her retirement years, passed away peacefully at home on October 12, 2024, at the age of 82. Lena Sue was a graduate of McComb High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi to get her "Mrs.", which she certainly did; meeting the love of her life, Jerry Burt, who passed away 4 ½ years ago. She was a retired State employee, but her greatest accomplishment and passion was to be a godly woman. She loved and adored her husband, and was a great mother, grandmother (best known as Mams), and great grandmother. She was the owner and CEO of Scamp Camp for her grandsons. She excelled in all – job well done, my good and faithful servant. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend of 57 years, Jerry Burt; her parents, Howard and Juanita Mathews; and her sister, Anitra Williamson. She is survived by her children: Butch (Vilma) Burt, Julian (Al James) Burt, Becky Davidson and Beverly (Ray) Rogers; her grandsons: Logan (Jennifer) Burt, Brandon Burt, Alex Vicknair, Matthew (Haley) Vicknair and Christian and Clay Davidson; one great grandson, Asher Burt; and her sister, Nelda (Al) Sibley. No more suffering, no more pain for a woman who loved her family deeply. Rest in peace, our sweet and precious mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister – you will be missed!
