Obituary

Melvin Anthon Blalock, 91, of Liberty, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, January 18, 2023, with his devoted wife, brothers, and family at his side.

Melvin was born January 13, 1932, in Liberty, Mississippi, to the late Willie Cleveland Blalock and the late Nora Lee Plemmons Blalock. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Blalock Hadley and two brothers: Carl Blalock and Lee Blalock.

He leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-five years, Blondell Coleman Blalock, of Liberty, Mississippi; three brothers: Aubrey (Genevieve) Blalock, Merrill Blalock, and Bert Blalock; two sisters: Wilma (Ted) Aucoin and Debra (Ken) Moritz; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Melvin served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a self-employed contractor by profession and built numerous homes, churches, and schools throughout the area. He was a faithful member and bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the Dallas Texas Temple and later served with his faithful companion, Blondell, in the Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple.

He was humble, generous, and kind. He exemplified the Lord's command to love his neighbor and continuously served others quietly and without the expectation of receiving. When he saw a need, he fulfilled it with his whole heart and with all of his means. Surely charity, the pure love of Christ, was the hallmark of Melvin Anthon Blalock's character. He lived his life in accordance with one of his most favorite scriptures found in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
