Merita Faye Calmes Ross
She was born August 11, 1950 to Dorothy and Aidren Calmes of Baton Rouge, LA.
She passed peacefully on January 3, 2026 in Liberty, MS at Liberty Community Living Center with family. She was 75 years old.
She was married to Charles Ross. They lived in Baton Rouge, LA and Liberty, MS at various points of their lives together.
She is survived by four of her five children; daughter Rhonda Thibodeaux (Kirk), son Charlie, daughter Marissa Blalock (Eldon) and their three children; Micheal, Jason (Anastasia), Patrick; and daughter Kimberly. Her former Sister In-Law Sharon Ougel and former Brother In-Law Darrell Ross (Ronda), as well as a host of nieces and nephews, Scott, Walter, Stephanie, Aislinn, Aonika, Cameron, and Ashley.
She is preceded in death by her son Dewayne, former spouse Charles, and her parents Dorothy and Aidren Calmes, and Brother In-law Stephen Ougel.
She lived for 6.5 years at Liberty Community Living Center where she became friends with many of the residents and staff. She took pride in listening to the needs of residents and took her role as Resident Counsel President very seriously. She loved music, dancing, and cooking. She enjoyed getting dressed up for events so that she could be fancy. She would boot scoot and boogie with the best of them. She never missed an opportunity to enjoy a cold Coke and snacks. As a family we appreciate all the care and love given to her by the staff and residents at Liberty Community Living Center.
She was a member of Liberty Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Day Saints.
Services will be Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in Liberty, MS at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiated by Bishop Brad Weathers. Viewing will be 10am until 12pm. Funeral services will begin at 12pm. A graveside service will be held at Blalock Cemetery in Liberty, MS. Graveside Dedication will be performed by Merrill Blalock.
Pallbearers are Kirk Thibodeaux, Eldon Blalock, Tyler Jackson, Micheal Blalock, Patrick Blalock, Scott McGowan, and Walter Duvernay
The family welcomes you to attend lunch following the graveside service at the church. This is lovingly provided and organized by the ladies of the church.
