Rebekah
Bland
d. Apr 8, 2019
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. – I Peter 4:8 Rebekah (Becky) Bland passed away peacefully on April 8, 2019 at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS. She was comforted by her loving husband, Rubin and by other family members in spirit. Born on September 13, 1940 in Amite County, Mississippi, she was the second of three children born to Elbert McCabe and Ethel Fife McCabe.
Becky was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a loving sister and daughter. She graduated from Gloster High School and lived the majority of her life in Amite County, Mississippi, but resided in Hazlehurst Mississippi with her husband for the past 5 years.
Becky accepted Our Lord, Jesus Christ as her savior at a very early age, while attending a brush arbor service. That decision impacted and shaped the rest of her life. She had a passion for reading and understanding God's word and strove to live a life pleasing to God every day. In any conversation you would have with Becky, it would not be long before she would direct the conversation to her love for Christ and the Bible, and would gently (and sometimes not so gently) discuss salvation, death, and eternity with anyone she came in contact with.
Spending quality time with her husband, family, church family and friends were of most importance to her. She had a quick wit and could find humor in most any situation. Her zest for life and laughter will be most remembered by all that knew her.
Becky is preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Ethel McCabe, her older brother, Carrol McCabe, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rubin Bland of Hazlehurst. Also mourning their loss are her children and step-children: Edward Alan Waller and fiancé Shirley Tarver of Liberty, MS; Desiree Waller Hart and husband Keith of Wesson, MS; Cindy Waller Bridges and husband Billy of Brandon, MS; Jason Bland and wife Paula of Brandon, MS; Michelle Wood and husband Sean of Loyd Star, MS; Joey Bland and wife Monica of Brookhaven, MS. and Paul Bland and wife Leigh Ann of Wesson, MS.
Becky was blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by everyone that knew her. Her spunk, humor, love of God and country, and laughter will be a loss to all.
One of her favorite scriptures sums up her approach to life. "Always focus on the positive. Don't let the negative get you down"
Philippians 4:8 ---
"Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think on these things. "
