ROBERT CHARLES PAYNE, SR.

Robert Charles Payne, Sr., 93, a lifelong resident of Liberty, Mississippi, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Payne was born on November 22, 1928 to Vencie Lee Payne and Evelyn Wilkinson Payne. He served in the United States Marine Corps. and went on to retire from Exxon as a riverboat Captain. Mr. Payne was faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling and doing mission work with the Mississippi Baptist Association "Nailbenders".

In 1953, Mr. Payne married Barbara Robertson Payne. Together, they celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Mr. Payne is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Barbara, a daughter, Cherrie Payne, a son, Robert C. Payne, Jr. (Bobby), two brothers, Norman Payne & Paul Payne, and three sisters, Gloria Payne Byrd, Mary Payne Cobb, & Ruby Lee Keller.

Survivors include one son, Larry Clark Payne of Prairieville, LA, and one daughter,

Janice Faye Peace and husband Sherrill of Flat Rock, NC.

Mr. Payne is also survived by three grandchildren and their spouses, Cherrie Causey Nelson and husband, Robin; Charles Rayford Causey, Jr. and wife, Deanea; & Robert Charles Payne, III and wife, Laura. Five great-grandchildren left to cherish his memory are Lauren Payne, Mayce Causey, Madison Payne, Chayse Causey, & Dayne Causey.

Other survivors include brothers and sisters - in-law, James A. (Jimmy) & Linda Robertson, and Charles & Linda Carruth.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Liberty Baptist Church until services there at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. James Sadler and Bro. Joe Weaver officiating. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Pat Talbert, Darden Brady, Randy Toler, Mike Tynes, Clay Caston, & James Kirkland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Liberty Baptist Church.
