Robert Lane
Taylor
d. Jun 7, 2026
Robert Lane Taylor, 72, of Orange, Texas, passed away on June 7, 2026. He was born on April 17, 1954, in McComb, Mississippi, to Marland Farley Taylor and Arnetta Wilson Taylor.
Known simply as "Robert Lane" to family and friends, he spent much of his life working with his hands and solving problems. A truck driver, mechanic, welder, and true jack of all trades, he possessed a natural ability to fix almost anything he set his mind to.
Those who knew him could easily picture him in his familiar welder's cap, pearl-snap button-down shirt, Wranglers, and work boots. Independent, determined, and strong-willed, he lived life on his own terms. He was known for his green thumb and love of gardening, enjoyed a good cup of black coffee, and never passed up an opportunity to visit with others. Robert Lane never met a stranger and had a way of making friends wherever he went.
Robert Lane married Margaret Mary Hunt Stewart Taylor later in life. Though they had no children, they shared years of companionship together until her passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marland Farley Taylor and Arnetta Wilson Taylor; his infant sister, Anita Ann Taylor; his beloved wife, Margaret Mary Hunt Stewart Taylor; and his brother-in-law, Preston James "Jimmy" Premeaux.
He is survived by his brother, James (Farley) Taylor; his sisters, Janis M. Premeaux and Alisa A. Spoonemore and her husband, Jody Spoonemore; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Though he had no children of his own, Robert Lane was deeply involved in the lives of his nieces and nephews. He made time for them, shared his interests with them, and created memories they would carry throughout their lives. Whether spending time outdoors, taking them fishing, or simply being present, he made those around him feel valued and loved.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Jamie Smith, nurse and owner of A Place Called Home in Orange, Texas, where Robert Lane made his home for the past seven years. Her patience, compassion, understanding, and unwavering dedication meant more to Robert Lane and his family than words can adequately express.
The family is also sincerely grateful to the staff, caregivers, and residents of A Place Called Home for the kindness, respect, companionship, and support they shared with Robert Lane throughout his years there. The family takes great comfort in knowing that Robert Lane was not only cared for, but genuinely loved.
Robert Lane will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, resourcefulness, and strong will. Though he lived life on his own terms, he leaves behind treasured memories and a lasting impact on those who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Liberty Cemetery in Liberty, Mississippi.
