Rupert Rodney Toler, Jr, (Rip), a native of Gloster, Mississippi, went home to be with his heavenly Father and family, Saturday, February 2, 2019. He joined the US Navy after graduating from Gloster High School in 1945. He served as an air traffic controller during World War ll, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1965. He also worked in numerous mills around the area until his retirement.
He served as a deacon at Crosby Baptist Church which he considered a great honor. He was a dedicated member of Galilee Baptist Church. His mission in life was to bring people to God by passing out baseball caps and aprons with the message, "God said it, I believe it, and that settles it", which is how he lived his life. He enjoyed working and singing in the church as well as fishing, hunting, and woodworking.
He is survived by three daughters, Janelle Toler Fitzpatrick and husband Michael of Carlise, PA. , Janie Newman Robertson and husband Bill, of Baton Rouge, La., and Ruby Newman Smith and husband Larry of Livingston, La.; one son Rupert Rodney (Rod) Toler lll of Gloster, MS.; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren; two brothers Charles Toler and wife Maxie and Ben Toler and wife Linda; one sister Anne Gibson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a very special niece Amy Pigott, whom he adored and considered his sunshine; she made his day; and a very special friend who he considered one of his children, Dorothy Mae Hunt.
Visitation will be at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster, Wednesday, February 6, 2019, from 11:00 A.M. until time of funeral services at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Brian Malone. Interment will follow in Roseland Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Donald Jones, Mike Newman, Michael Toler, David Toler, Kevin Harvey, Tommy Kennedy, and Joe Toler.
