W.C. "Billy" Baggett, 91, of Liberty, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2022 at Field Health System in Centreville, MS.

He was born January 11, 1931 to the late J.P. and Nellie Baggett in Ashland, MS. When he was ten years old , his family moved to Liberty, where they owned and operated a family sawmill.

After leaving the family business, he worked on the pipe line. During this time, he met and married the late Janie Beasley Baggett, the mother of his children. They later opened and operated Baggett's Grocery and Ice House for over forty-five years in Liberty.

Billy's love for the land was evident to any one who spoke to him. He absolutely loved a good turkey hunt and enjoyed fishing. It was a well known fact that he had the best garden in Amite County; and if you wanted to talk politics, he was the man to talk to.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Buddy Baggett, Polly Ray; Christine Howell, J.P. Baggett Jr., Jake Baggett, John Baggett and Bob Baggett.

He is survived by his sons, Ricky Baggett and wife, Lisa, of Monticello,MS., Bill Baggett and wife, Shara, of Liberty,MS., Virgil Beasley of Tuscalousa, Al. and his sister Martha Owens of Vidalia, La.  He was affectionately called "Paw" by his six grandchildren, Heather Merideth and, husband, Wesley, of Summit, MS., Lance Baggett of Hattiesburg, MS., Justin Baggett and wife, Brittany, of Liberty,MS., Kaitlyn Lockwood and husband, Landon, of Gillsburg, Kamrie Hanson and husband, Denton, of McComb, and Marko Beasley of Tuscalousa, Al.

His seven great grandchildren were his heart, Cameron Barber, Garren Thomas Baggett, Drew Maxwell, Libby Grace Merideth, Jack William Lockwood, Lawson Cole Baggett, and Camden Brian Hanson.

Visitation is Tuesday, May 25, 2022, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Brown Funeral Home in Liberty, MS.  Also visitation Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral services at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home, officiated by Bro. Merrill Blalock and Bro. Lee Mathis. Interment will follow in Liberty Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Justin Baggett, Cameron Barber, Wesley Merideth, Landon Lockwood, Denton Hanson, and Billy J. Baggett.

Honorary Pallbearers are Lance Baggett, Tommy Harvey, Bill Badon, Landon Moore, and Bro. Melvin Blalock.
