It is with a heavy heart and great sadness the passing of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.  Woody Carter went to meet our heavenly father on June 27, 2018,   after battling a lengthy illness.

Funeral Services for , age 67, will be held at Brown Funeral Home in Gloster, MS on Saturday, June 30, 2018,  with the Rev. Reggie Foreman officiating.  Visitation is from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M.  with funeral services to follow at 3:00 P.M.   Woody will be laid to rest at Roseland Cemetery in Gloster, MS.

Woody was born in Gloster, MS. to Herman and Mabel Zimmerman Carter.

He is survived by  his wife, Darlene Carter of Welsh, LA. and their three children, Shannon  (Steve) Nicholson of Albany, Oregon, Christopher Carter of Portland, Oregon, and Shawn Carter of Maui, Hawaii;  four grandchildren Hailey, Hayden, Hadlee, and Isaac Nicholson of Albany, Oregon;  his sister, Elizabeth Ann (Charles) Havard of Simes, Al.; two brothers, Talmadge (Bertha) Carter of Gonzales, La. and Robert (Ann) Carter of Gloster, MS., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather; a friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Herman Sims "Boots" Carter.

Woody enjoyed gardening,  reading, listening to his music (Swamp Pop and Country).  He enjoyed watching movies and quiet evenings at home with his family and his pets, Piper, Skipper, Little Bit, and Pepper.

He worked thirty plus years as a water waste operator and supervisor for various town and cities in both La. and MS.  He was a master plumber and pipe fitter having worked at the local 198.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army and was proud to be an American, defending our freedoms that we are allowed to enjoy.
